Co-Workers!

During the day at the park, there are inevitably slow periods throughout the day. In this "free time" I find myself drawing, and being drawn by the other artist working at the stand. Here are a few of the drawings I have done of a few of my coworkers.


This is Monty, an artist working his way to Orlando from Valley Fair. I don't have a picture of him because he got a drawing before I could finish this one, so just take my word for it...

Kelton doesn't have eyes, or a nose, but he does have a good sense of humor.

This is Mike, he's a really cool guy in his first year of caricature. He also does tattoos!

Here is Thomas, he just finished his junior year at SCAD and is working the summer at Six Flags, really cool guy with some nice work. I've drawn him countless times, definitely a challenging face to exaggerate. Do yourself a favor and check out his blog! (maybe even buy one of his screen prints!)

I Thiiiiiiiink this is Edward, he is one of two identical twins working with us this year


And this strange looking girl is Chi, she has worked just a few days at caricature this year and now is back to doing t-shirts. Rumor has it that she will be back with us when we go to weekends in August. She also thinks that Ninjas do not make sound, when we all know that they do, just before they kill you!

A few lines in black and white

Black and white drawings are fun, and challenging to me because I know that I will not have the opportunity to clean anything up with color, The product is to be a raw, clean, and humorous drawing without the polish of the airbrush. Because of this I attack a black and white caricature differently (not a whole lot differently) than I would do a color caricature. I try to use as few lines as possible to portray the necessary information of a face to make it a recognizable likeness. These are a couple drawings that I was satisfied with...

But just because I was satisfied with it doesn't mean the customers were. This one was returned because "It didn't look like her" and I "didn't draw polka-dots on her bathing suit." Those were just two reasons among other things basically inferring that I didn't know how to draw. But like I said, I liked it, and thought I achieved a decent likeness on both of them, but what do I know?

Fun drawing, thought I captured more than a likeness, with some personality. They were a very animated mother daughter duo.

Nothing more than an interesting drawing, not 100% what I imagined when I started, but turned out interesting none the less.

I REALLY wish the little boy wasn't so short, he had a super interesting face, for a little kid at least. I liked the quality of this one, but I think I went a little thick on some of the lines...

Just a fun and interesting couple all around, what else can I say? I enjoyed drawing the bodies just as much as the faces in this one!

Being Lazy, and some cartoony drawings...

As no one has probably noticed, for someone to notice people would have to actually read this blog, but I have gotten lazy, and have not posted in quite some time. That doesn't mean that I haven't been working at the park and recording some of my drawings, it just means that I haven't posted in awhile. So naturally, I have quite a few drawings to share, all at once. But I will not post them all at once, I'm going to post them several at a time every couple days, and hopefully tell a little bit about the drawings or whatever if I have stuff to say, something that I have not been doing. Well, I'm done blabbing, here are a few drawings from the past month or so....


These couple drawings all have the same "feeling" to them, and thats the reason I have decided to post them together, often I feel like I try to push exaggeration too much and lose the "life" of a drawing. Yea, this sounds a bit corny, but its true a lot of the times. The more spontaneous a drawing is sometimes the more I like it, blah, weird, but here, some more cartoony park sketches...

The one above didn't turn out exactly how I planned, mostly because it was rushed (darn people wanting a triple done five minutes before closing! I really wish goofy kids came early in the day...) But I liked it...so...here...

Once again, had a "vibe" that I liked. The background was a request, the girl wanted it colorful, and this is what she got. But she seemed to like it!

This drawing was so long ago, I really don't remember a whole lot about it, was one of the days when I worked alone, it was a fun drawing, and I think I achieved a decent likeness...I hope!

When I started this one, I wasn't looking for a whole lot of exaggeration, I just wanted to make them look goofy without a whole lot of distortion. I like it...

Leaping Lizards!

This is not the art you would expect from me, but it is something I drew up, planned, and built myself...

My freshman year of high school I got a chameleon, and it died after about six months of me having it, because the dude at the pet store was a moron. Basically he told us everything we needed to do to kill a chameleon (ie: house it in a glass terrarium, feed it calcium supplements with EVERY feeding, and use a melting ice cube to quench its thirst). I have been super interested in the animals for awhile now, and have always wanted to get another one. for those of you who don't know, Chameleons are super difficult to maintain, and require a lot of special attention and special conditions that can be difficult and expensive to replicate in captivity. They require a tall vivarium of at least 4 feet tall, with screening on at least three sides with the top also screened. Chameleons do NOT survive in glass enclosures because of poor ventilation and they can become extremely stressed with the sight of another chameleon (or their own reflection). There are very few manufactures that even produce a product CLOSE to adequate for chameleon husbandry, let alone exactly what is needed. So I decided to make my own, it's 2 feet by 3 feet by 6.5 feet, screened on five sides (front, left side, right side, top, and bottom for water drainage) has a complete misting system which I can control how much it "rains" inside of the habitat, and 5 light sources providing UVA, UVB radiation (necessary for calcium absorption and healthy bones in chameleons) and several heat sources of different temperatures for him to "bask" in.

As odd as this sounds, my Chameleon is coming in the mail on Wednesday (hopefully in good active health) I'll add pictures of him as soon as I get the chance, but for now, instead of drawing, this is what I've been up to for the past two weeks!
