Merry Christmas... 2006!

I meant to post this AWHILE back, like in 2006 when I did these as Christmas gifts for parents... Thought I should finally share.

Sketchy Man in Black...

With Christmas just around the corner I've been a little busier than usual, but I'm still trying to keep up the daily post thing.  Heres a real quick sketch, sketchier than I would have liked to post,  But I didn't completely like the direction this one was headed.  Will probably try again, maybe more caricature at a later date, but at the moment, this is all I have...

Bedside Manner

I've drawn this guy numerous times and each time I'm never quite satisfied.... Including this time.  He just has so many facets to his personality its hard to capture "him" I think the biggest issue with this one it the color.  I do believe it's overworked... Maybe next time?

Delicate Skin

Okay, I was having trouble with colors, so I decided to choose someone that would be a challenge as far as colors go.  To force me to REALLY look at the colors that exist on her face.  I know most areas are near white, but I have about 15-20 different marker colors working in there somewhere, and thats just for the skin tones...

Last Muddy...

After I did this one I finally realized that the grey scale to color process isn't the best way to get to the final color product.  I need to jump right into color as soon as I can.  

More color on top of grey scale...

More muddy colors, but they are not this muddy in my sketchbook... wish my scanner picked up colors better...

British Invasion.

In my new sketchbook, its funny how differently theses pages take the ink compared to my old sketchbook.  The last few have also been from the new sketchbook. 

Overworked

When I finished this one, I noticed it was overworked... With the next couple ones, I will try to stop before they get to this point....

Painting I Final

I somehow got my professor to agree to me doing a caricature self portrait for my final painting.  I put a LOT of time into this painting,  probably worked on it for a month on and off.  I couldn't even guess how many hours went into this, all I know is too many.  But I did learn something... so I guess thats good.  

It looks better in person, but heres the best picture I could get of it...

I go back and forth on whether I like it or not... I see sooooo many things I would change about it, so I know it could be a LOT better, but for my first attempt at something like this, I think its a good first step...  More to come like this I hope, lets see if I have the time...

Less Successful...

Did this one in a similar manner as the Clint Eastwood one.  Unfortunately, I think it was less successful.... Can't win them all....

Bling!

In class still life

Huge, giant still life set up in my painting class.  It was truly overwhelming.  I'll be honest, I don't really like this painting.  But to give you guys a break from copic... here you go!

I liked the simplicity in this one...

This one was done a little differently than the rest, the hard black "defining" lines that I usually start off a drawing with, weren't added until the end, and in a lot of areas, at all.  More of a painterly approach, just blocking in value...

Remember how I said I didn't have anymore park sketches to share?  Well, I found a couple more from the last weekend of the season... actually from the very last day, it was a slow day... I think this was all that I did all day... so you can see why I may have wanted to forget about it....

Droopy Dog

Once again, copic marker, the edited version lost quality somewhere, too lazy to do it again, so I added the raw scan at a higher quality, missing the ever so important droopy dog lapel pin. 

Halloween

I know I'm about a month late on the subject, but here is my cousin and I on Halloween of this year.  

She had no idea what I was going to be for halloween until the day of, I talked her into being a banana... it was fun.

I have several of these coming in the next few days, and look for a pretty involved painting that I've been working on for awhile now.  End of the semester is here... that means more "fun" art to come shortly!

Figure Painting... again.

Here are a couple more figure paintings from my current painting class.  Mostly color experiments.  The professor suggests to start with bold vivid colors, and work our way to local color.  I feel grossly incompetent with a paintbrush and almost decided not to share these.  But I understand its a learning experience... so here they are.  

Hopefully I can look back on these in the future and notice improvements... thats the goal right?
