Toyota Sandy Springs Illustration

A little over a month ago I was contacted by Sandy Springs Toyota to do an illustration for a mailer they were putting out. The mailer was being used as a response to the recent recalls. They wanted something along the same lines as a political cartoon, with the national media fighting Toyota, with the domestic automakers and the UAW cheering them on, this is what I came up with. Inked traditionally and painted digitally in photoshop.

Pirates!

This is the first project for my paper making and book arts class, PIRATES! The project was centered around the binding, in this case, Japanese stab binding, and in my case, hemp leaf with nobel corners. Drawings were done with India Ink, and watercolors. Bound with black waxed linen thread, and covered with various papers and book clothe. Book block composed of tea stained 90lb Canson watercolor paper.

Size 6" x 9"
The left inch or so over every drawing is hidden by the spine of the book.
(scanned before binding)

I was going to sketch in some pirates making him walk the plank, but it looks like I forgot! Oh well, now he just looks like some crazy tied up guy committing suicide?
