Life Drawing: Filleted Self Portrait

First portrait using charcoal, had fun with this one.  I'm not 100% satisfied, but you'll probably see some more experimenting with stuff like this in the future.

In the mean time, I'm sure you've heard of the flooding in Atlanta by now, here are some pictures of Six Flags after the rain.  (Photo Credits: Phil Skinner, AJC)

Self Portrait Project Continued...

Our most recent photo project was to go off of one of our self portrait ideas and make 3 more prints... I decided to go off of my Explorer/Gorilla idea.  The first image is my original self portrait, and the second is the first print of the next project that I brought to my teacher... he then explained to me how to split filter, a process that takes advantage of both layers of emulsion on the photo paper... the following 3 images are split filtered.

Self Portrait - Photography

Okay, This was a hard project.  Mainly because of the concept, we were forced to think of who we are, how others see us and how we perceive ourselves.  Deep stuff, I thought so at least.  Three prints were required, one of "What we fantasize about," "How we see ourselves" and "How others see us."

I'll let you guess which image belongs to each concept...

Ignore the digital bits on the middle one, I have no idea how they got there, my apologies.

Time for me to brag a little...

At the beginning of the month, I had two pieces entered into a local College Juried Exhibition, and...well I won jurors choice with my self portrait! Plus, my self portrait was on all of the show cards for the event! The above image was that show card.

Self Portrait

For our final project in Drawing I, we had to do a self portrait, you know those "serious ones" I started three, and only finished one. The first two are drawings that I put about an hour into, size 24" x 36" and the last one is the one I came closer to finishing, but I would still make changes on it if I could.

The assignment was "you in your environment" So I figured I would just set up a couple mirrors on my drawing table, and draw what I saw, but I didn't like that once I got started...

I then decided I just wanted to draw myself, and my environment would be my background, but then decided that my proportions wouldn't be correct on this particular drawing, even though I think I came pretty close...
Then after two attempts in charcoal, I got bored kinda, and moved onto ink. If we chose to do it in ink, we had to use cross contour. You can see it if you look for them, and thats how I wanted it. Not perfect, but it will do... I hope.

Swirlism

This was a project for my 2D Design class, the assignment was to create a self portrait using only textures and patterns to create value (rather than stippling, hatching, and cross hatching). I dub this Swirlism because the majority of this image was created using a variety of "swirls" and circles...My hair is words...lots and lots of words....

Click for a closer look...its quite trippy

Enjoy...
