Oil Painting... again...

Alright, I know that I posted this before but I was never happy about the digital representation of the artwork.  I know that it still is pretty much on the sucky side of well... everything, with anatomical errors and to poor color usage in the skin.  yea.  But I did spend a lot of time on this piece and feel like I should correctly represent it.

Painting I Final

I somehow got my professor to agree to me doing a caricature self portrait for my final painting.  I put a LOT of time into this painting,  probably worked on it for a month on and off.  I couldn't even guess how many hours went into this, all I know is too many.  But I did learn something... so I guess thats good.

It looks better in person, but heres the best picture I could get of it...

I go back and forth on whether I like it or not... I see sooooo many things I would change about it, so I know it could be a LOT better, but for my first attempt at something like this, I think its a good first step...  More to come like this I hope, lets see if I have the time...

Let me know what you think please!

In class still life

Huge, giant still life set up in my painting class.  It was truly overwhelming.  I'll be honest, I don't really like this painting.  But to give you guys a break from copic... here you go!

Figure Painting... again.

Here are a couple more figure paintings from my current painting class.  Mostly color experiments.  The professor suggests to start with bold vivid colors, and work our way to local color.  I feel grossly incompetent with a paintbrush and almost decided not to share these.  But I understand its a learning experience... so here they are.

Hopefully I can look back on these in the future and notice improvements... thats the goal right?

In class "test"

This was considered a "test grade" in my painting class, done in one class period (about 2 hours after set up) The image is a little washed out because of the flash... sorry, scanner bed not large enough, and not enough time to set up for a proper shooting.  I tried a couple new things here, and I kinda like how it turned out.  It gives me a couple new ideas for my next alla prima painting that I attempt.

Figure Painting.

These are my first experiments with figure painting, quite different from figure drawing I might add...

They come from 3 different class periods, with 3 different approaches being taught, pretty much experimenting with figure painting, getting information down on the canvas as soon as possible, and correcting later. I've organized them, starting with my first paintings, moving down towards the newer ones.   They range in time spent from 2 minutes, to 1 hour, let me know what think. Thanks!

Day 1

Day 2

Day 3

I have 2 more days similar to share, they are still at school though so I can't phtograph them and share.  Look for them in another post. Thanks!

Painting I Still Lifes

Well, I finished these a week or so ago and I guess its about time to post them.  To all those who actually know what they are doing with oils, let me know what you think.  I've only been working in this media for about 2 months now.  It's not as easy as I thought it would be.  Enough rambling... on with the paintings!
This one was my in class still life.  We worked on it for 3 classes in monochormatic, and 3 with color.  I'm not really a fan of how it turned out, I have a hard time bringing my paintings into a higher realization.

This one is my at home still life, Worked on it for 2-3 weeks on and off, 10-15 hours maybe?  Thats all a guess.  I'm somewhat satisfied with this one.  Opinions?

Thanks!

Apologies for the poor photo quality.  It's hard when they are of such large size, and without a good imaging program.

First Oil Painting

As I said a couple posts back, I am currently taking my first painting class at Kennesaw, and here is my first painting from that class.  This ws done over the span of two class periods, one with the still life set up, and the second without.  so I had to go from memory on a lot of the finishing details.  All you people that really know what you're doing when it comes to painting, let me know what you think!
