Last Muddy...

After I did this one I finally realized that the grey scale to color process isn't the best way to get to the final color product.  I need to jump right into color as soon as I can.

Chris- Great sketches! Glad to see you experimenting. You're right about using grays with the color. It just ends up dull or muddy. Funny thing, that happens even digitally. I start some of my digital paintings with a fully rendered gray marker sketch, and then scan it into Photoshop. It took a lot of experimentation to keep the final colors from ending up muddy.
